Bike Repairs

DO-It-Together

We are happy to help you carry out repairs to your bike, with access to the tools and spare parts. One of the volunteers will be on hand to help and offer support and guidance.

But let’s be clear – the DCCP is not a bike shop and we do not carry out bike services or complex repairs. That’s the job of a bike shop. Whilst we have a number of qualified and experienced bike mechanics, their role is to oversee and help our team of keen volunteers, not do the job for you.

When you arrive at the project, we will carry out a triage and safety check on the bike and advise on what will be needed and the best way forward. We don’t run a booking system, and can’t guarantee we will be able to fit you in, but we will do our best, so please be patient!

The sort of repairs we can usually help you carry out include:

  • Punctures
  • Adjusting gears
  • Replacing brakes and cables
  • Replacing headsets and bottom brackets

We have a range of spare parts available for most popular sizes. Sometimes a bike might be beyond repair, and in this case we can advice you on a suitable alternative.

What Does it Cost?

We don’t make a charge for helping with repairs – but donations are very welcome and we do ask that you make a donation to at least cover the cost of replacement parts.

What We Can't Help With

We are not able to assist with more complex problems such as:

  • Full bike services
  • Hydraulic brake bleeding
  • Wheel repairs and spoke replacement
  • Electric gear systems

We will usually suggest you use a bike shop / professional mechanic for
these tasks.

E-Bikes
Sorry but, we are not able to work on any e-bikes or e-bike conversions.
